1.  I've never done this before, how does this work?
This is the most frequently asked question that we get regarding bail bonds and it's really pretty simple.

After we collect information about your loved one in jail, we will ask for 10% of the total bond to be paid in cash. This is called the "premium." We also take collateral for the amount of the bond to hold until the bond is exonerated. There is also paperwork to be filled out. Once that is done, we go to the jailhouse and pay the entire bond using a "surety bond" that the jail accepts like cash to release the defendant.
2.  What is a premium?
The premium is our fee for writing the bond that will release your loved one from jail. Because you are paying a small percentage of the total bond, our insurance company pays the rest. The premium exists for providing you the convenience of not having to do all the legwork while we pay the entire bond so you don't have to come up with all the money yourself.


3.  What is collateral?
Collateral is anything of value that is worth the total amount of the bond.


4.  What can I use as collateral?

5.  What is a "cash only" bond?
A cash only bond means that the total bond must be paid in cash. A surety bond like we offer at Ameribail does not work in these instances. Ameribail does not provide cash only bonds.


6.  How long does it take for a defendant to get out of jail once we complete the paperwork and pay the premium?
We will drive down to the jail right away to post the bond for your loved one. From there, it is up to the jail to release them in a timely manner. We tell all clients that this takes between two and 24 hours, but in most cases a defendant is released within eight hours.


7.  What is an exoneration?
An exoneration is issued by the judge and releases the defendant from the need to have a bond. The judge will give you a sheet of paper that you must bring to us. At that point, we will return your collateral and the defendant no longer needs our service. It also means that there are no more court dates.
